Power Saver Mode Windows® 7

What is Power Saver Mode Windows 7? How did it come into being? How does it help to save power?

The power saver mode Windows 7 was recently released by Microsoft in form of various power management technologies which would not only reduce the consumption of power by the user but also extend the battery life of the computer in the process.

The power saver mode Windows 7 is meant for reducing the consumption of power while performing normal tasks like word processing, messaging, chatting and sending emails. Microsoft being actively involved in the performance of its products, soon discovered through various blogs, forums and surveys that most of the users of the Windows operating systems faced the problem of short battery life which would drain out even while performing basic tasks. It was in reaction to this feedback, which threatened the reception as well as the acceptance of the new operating system that Microsoft decided to act upon the information by setting up an engineering team which would be dedicated to finding and devising power management technologies aimed towards reducing power consumption by a wide margin. The consequence which ensued as a result of this effort was introduced to the world in form of the power saver mode Windows 7, meant exclusively for one of the most important components of the computer namely the power and the battery.

The power saver mode Windows 7 entails the application of different ways in which the consumption of power could be reduced like idle resource utilization, enhanced processor power management, adaptive display brightness, networking power improvements and low power audio.

Idle Resource Utilization

The power saver mode Windows 7 is meant to be power efficient in the sense that during the long period of idleness or inactivity, the hardware which is inclusive of the processor, disk, memory and network activity moves into a lower power state thus saving a substantial amount of power.

Enhanced Processor Power Management

This technology allows Windows 7 to select its optimum processor performance state as per the work-load and the scale thus saving power in the process.

Adaptive Display Brightness

According to Microsoft, the default setting of the display makes it switch off following 10 to 15 minutes of inactivity while during shorter periods it is meant to remain on. This has been slightly altered after the application of power saver mode Windows 7 which apart from dimming of the display also adjusts the brightness in accordance to the ambient light.

Networking Power Improvements

Improving the low-power mode capability after having tested the compatibility of network controllers greatly results in saving of power.

Low Power Audio

The power saver mode Windows 7 has been designed to support the lowest unresponsive power state and is also capable of saving power when the particular audio device is not in use.
