Back up and restore registry in Windows XP To create a back up of the registry in Windows XP ,click on 'Start', and 'Run' and type in '%SystemRoot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe' and click on 'Ok'. The window will prompt stating "Welcome to System restore". Click on 'Create a restore point' and alternatively type a name of the restore point so that it could be easily recognized. After the process is complete, close the window. Many a times the windows system restore feature is turned off. In such a situation the window will prompt with the message "System restore is turned off, do you wish to turn it on?" Click on 'Yes'. The above process was about backing up registry files, To restore registry files in Windows XP, click on 'Start', and type '%SystemRoot%\System32\Restore\Rstrui.exe' in the Run command box and click 'Ok'.The system will come up with "Welcome to system restore'. Click on 'Restore my system to an earlier date'. The system will prompt with the restore points. Select a restore point and click on 'Next'. Confirm the selection of restore point and click on 'Ok'.
To access registry in Windows XP , click on 'Start', 'Run' and type in 'regedit' in the command box. Regedit is also referred as registry editor. It offers to check and make changes to the registry.
